After a bit of a SNAFU with
their online store, Polyvibe records has re-launched their version "2.0"
e-commerce site. You may now FINALLY purchase my Lost Sessions Vol.1 LP
directly from them. Below is the information and product link from Polyvibe.
"In
1999, R. Garcia was a fresh music school drop-out. Wide-eyed and turned on
to the avant sounds of Ornette Coleman, John Zorn, and latter-model
Coltrane, Garcia was attempting to fuse new and unusual sounds into his
already well-developed electronic music. The result was completed in 2000
and intended as a follow-up to his acclaimed Mr. Fusion album. However, this
collection of songs — less harmonic and more gutteral than his typical “jazz
& breaks” faire — was shelved while Garcia underwent a rather painful series
of back surgeries.
Forward to 2007: During a frenzied, late night shelf-cleaning, Garcia rediscovers the original data CD containing the afforementioned album. An objective listen revealed some limitations in the mastering process, so Garcia instinctually attacked the project — spending a few days cleaning up the original recordings and closely matching them with his modern sonic standards. The resulting collection is now presented as The Lost Sessions. Fans of R. Garcia’s work are hereby treated to a rare glimpse at the primordial makings of his electronic signature. However, It would not be imprudent to view this album as a right and proper follow up to 2005’s smash LP Nerd Parade.
From the opening rumble of “Eyes on Swole”, to the deliberate gamelan assault of tracks like “Ornaments”, or “Vitamin N”, the album champions a gamut of experimental sounds, eschewing typical synth and drum machine drudgeries for a much more organic deconstruction. One listen to “We Are All Blind Cave Fish” reveals a bed of Moog synthesiser and manipulated human voices, while “Proxy” employs marimba and telephone as prime sound sources. “Grog” exhibits a rusty dance-hall feel with glass bottle and bell melodies, and “Ohms Om” couples cascading sine-tones and crunching, detuned drums. The Lost Sessions is as sparse as it is loaded, balanced, and beautifully wobbling around the sound-universe."

For the past year, this site has served as mostly a blog detailing my mundane life, extra-curricular projects, and occasional music-related triumphs and tribulations. During the the last six months of 2007, I challenged myself to release 6 albums in six months. I barely hung on, but managed to be more prolific in my "downtime" than I ever was when going full blast with my solo career.
Many of you know that I also devoted a good portion of last year to a new live project: Nerd Parade. As a band we released a pretty darn good record and toured like mad. we also headlined some pretty big tickets and managed to gain some critical accolades along the way. With Nerd Parade settling in to write and record another album, I thought now might be a good time to organize and plan my solo work as well. This site will now serve that purpose.
Looking forward to 2008, I can't be absolutely certain of what's to come, but I have some very special plans up my sleeve, including the return of some long-lost projects and the release of a pair of records I have been sitting on for a while. I will tour with Nerd Parade, as well as solo, and continue to write, record and produce like never before.
Additionally I will also continue the blog I started here -- only it will be a section of this site, and not the entirety of it. There is much, much more to come. See you soon.
